Victoria Mogilevsky - TPC Master Pilates Teacher & Host Advisor, NCPT

Owner of Mogo Pilates, Lead Teacher

My first introduction to Pilates was in 1996 while living in Connecticut. From the very first time I wandered into a Pilates studio I was hooked. I was fortunate to have studied with instructors trained by Romana Kryzanowska who was a student of the founder of Pilates, Joseph Pilates. It was truly an eye opening opportunity! In 2000, we moved to Minneapolis where I continued studying and practicing Pilates. After years experiencing the mental and physical benefits, I took my passion for Pilates to the next level when I completed the Advanced Teacher Training Program from The Pilates Center, Boulder, CO. I graduated from The Pilates' Center Master's Program and am a Host Advisor for The Pilates Center.  I am the only Authorized Practitioner for the Scolio-Pilates® Program with Karena Thek in the Midwest. I am a second generation Master Teacher from Lolita San Miguel program trained directly under her.  I am a Graduate from the Kathy Grant Heritage Training® Program and have completed the Pilates Plus Psyche with Pilates Elder, Mary Bowen, in Northhampton, MA. I am currently in a mentoring program with The Pilates Center's, Debora Kolwey, in Eve Gentry work. Debora is one of only three people who studied extensively with Eve, an elder and direct student of Joseph Pilates. I am also excited about being involved in the Movement Science Made Simple program with Cara Reeser. As a Nationally Certified Pilates Teacher, I love learning and expanding my knowledge of Pilates and enhancing my training through continuing education workshops.

If you haven't already noticed, I am a perpetual student and love learning more about all things Pilates!

I am the second generation of Mogo Pilates. At a very young age, my mother shared Pilates with me while we lived in Connecticut and I have been practicing Pilates ever since. I have always loved movement and while in college I studied dance. It was in college that I learned that Pilates can have a huge benefit towards health. I had a knee injury and Pilates has been instrumental to my recovery. My interest in teaching Pilates also began in college, my friends would ask to join me in my mat Pilates workout. I started by showing them the exercise choreography and it pretty quickly became an afternoon of Pilates. After college I continued doing Pilates for fitness and as a way to keep my knees healthy. About a year ago I decided to go through The Pilates Center’s advanced teacher training program. It was not easy balancing such a rigorous program with working full time but I am so glad that I did. I can’t wait to start teaching at Mogo!

History of Pilates

Joseph Pilates was born in 1883 in a small village near Dusseldorf, Germany. As a child Mr. Pilates suffered from asthma, rickets and rheumatic fever. His sickly childhood is what drove his desire to study health and fitness. Not only did he study Eastern and Western forms of exercise, he also studied animals natural movement in nature. His understanding of natural human movement stemmed from his study and observation of animal movement.

Joseph Pilates was living and working in England at the outbreak of WWI. He was sent to an internment camp for enemy aliens and it was at the camps that he started devising his exercise program Contrology. He started developing equipment for rehabilitation. He would take bed springs and devise equipment to help bedridden patients regain strength and movement.

After the war Joseph moved to New York City and opened a gym on 8th Ave.  Joe felt his work was “50 years ahead of (his) time”. Joe’s definition of physical fitness was: “the attainment and maintenance of a uniformly developed body with a sound mind fully capable of naturally, easily and satisfactorily performing our many and varied daily tasks with spontaneously zest and pleasure.” “Everything should be smooth, like a cat.” Joseph believed in uniform development of the body, mind and spirit. In order to truly be healthy one needed all three.

Joseph Pilates believed that Pilates was for “Everyone”. He believed that anyone could and would benefit from doing Pilates.
