From The Pilates Center…
This week we chat with Katie Cummings whose Pilates journey began with mat classes at the University of San Diego. Katie graduated from the Advanced Teacher Training Program at The Pilates Center, Boulder, Colorado in 2018 and she teaches at Mogo Pilates in Minneapolis.
Hi Katie, how are you today?
I am enjoying the summer with my family! I have a two year old little girl so am busy at the beaches and parks. She even loves to do Pilates in the mornings with me!
Where are you and what are you doing right now
I am having a quiet cup of coffee and answering emails before my little one wakes up for the day.
Are you teaching at a studio?
Yes, I am teaching at Mogo Pilates with Victoria Mogilevsky, a TPC Master Teacher. I am teaching both privates and group classes and I’m assisting with a new TPC trainee at Mogo!
How did you find out about The Pilates Center, Boulder, CO?
I found out about TPC trough my Pilates teacher, Victoria Mogilevsky, of Mogo Pilates in Minneapolis who I have been taking lessons with for about 7 years. When I started my family I began to think about a career change to achieve a better work-life balance. I had never thought about teaching Pilates, but it just made so much sense, especially as I love Pilates and what it has done for my mind/body and I love helping others.
What was your reason for choosing to train with TPC?
I wanted a comprehensive training program that was recognized and highly recommended. I looked at other schools, but I wanted to start my training with a foundation in Classical Pilates. I liked how The Pilates Center, Boulder laid out the program and allowed me to train long distance.
Why do you think The Pilates Center, Boulder is the best option for people wanting to become Pilates teachers?
The Pilates Center, Boulder teacher training program is very flexible and works well with unique schedules. iTPC, the online teaching tool, is an incredible resource, especially for long-distance students. Everyone I’ve met who has trained with or for TPC has been very knowledgeable and their teaching produces incredible results.
What was / is your favourite things about TPC’s teacher training programme?
I really like iTPC! It is so versatile in terms of allowing me flexibility so that I can study when I need to, plus I like how I can reference back to the videos and lectures. It’s great that I can train remotely, and to have the support of local TPC trainers and advisors.
What do you think your experience at TPC has given you most?
The Pilates Center’s Advanced Teacher Trainer program is very intense and very comprehensive. I definitely feel like I’ve gotten a great education and I have more confidence and understanding of the Pilates method both as a practitioner and as a new teacher. I also like that there’s a support system that continues after you graduate.
TPC teacher training has given me a better life balance and a true sense of purpose in this phase of my life – to be able to turn my passion into a career has just been brilliant! Not to mention this is an incredible opportunity to be surrounded by amazing people who want to become healthier and I get to play a part in that.
What would you say to someone who is considering training with TPC?
Go for it! But be sure you understand the demands for time and scheduling. Find a great Host Advisor and Licenced Teacher Trainer. I highly recommend Victoria and Michelle from Minneapolis. They have been a constant source of inspiration and guidance, it definitely is a lifestyle change but worth it!
